LICENSURE EXAM INFORMATION SESSION
The UIC ASDA licensure committee, led by UIC A2 student Sana Siraj and A1 student Katrina Lo, recently organized a lunch and learn presentation about the different regional licensure exams. The meeting was well-attended by dental students at all levels. Lunch was sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs. During the session, the audience learned about the required exams in order to obtain a dental license. Guest speaker Dr. Anna Organ-Boshes, who was the Director of the Licensing Board Examinations at the UIC College of Dentistry, talked about the CDCA, or the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (formerly known as the NERB). She highlighted her talk about her experience with leading the NERB examination at the college. Among the many useful advice gleaned from the meeting were: know where you want to practice as each state dental board would have its own requirements for licensure, apply early for the exams and know the deadline dates, practice your skills many times prior to the exam, and definitely set aside a budget for taking the exam.
